‘Hurlers Enduring Mathis’ is a depiction of my experience when visiting the Hurlers Stone Circles on Bodmin Moor as storm Mathis swept in. Over thousands of years these stones have stood resolutely through the harshest storms to hit Cornwall, but what will they, like all of us, face in the coming years as the climate dramatically shifts due to human activity and complacency?

The piece also explores earthly time at its extremes, fleeting moments of sweeping rain lashing stones that have stood sentinel for thousands of years, time which is almost insignificant when compared to the geological time frames over which the moor itself was formed.

By design monoprinting captures one unique moment. By building layers of monoprint I wanted to capture the constantly changing light and rain conditions created by the gale and the interplay of stone, water, and sky in this ever-changing but ancient liminal landscape.
